QAM Closed for the Summer While Searching for New Home
Blizzard after blizzard might have caved in the roof this winter, but even Mother Nature can't cave in the spirits of the volunteers at the Quonset Air Museum. Beaten but not broken, QAM will be closed to visitors now through the summer while it searches for a new location.
ROOF COLLAPSE OVER STORAGE AREA
Due to the excessive snow and rain this winter, additional damage to the Quonset Air Museum took place on Saturday, March 14th. A portion of the roof, over the storage area, has collapsed. In addition there is cause for concern of the structural integrity of the hanger roof and and south hanger doors. Please be advised that with the concern and safety of all guest, staff and volunteers that the QAM building is now closed.

QUONSET AIR MUSEUM CLOSES FOR THE WINTER
December 1st the Museum will be closing reopening on or about mid March, 2015. If you have visited with us, you know that the "old" World War 2 hangar is not heated, and although our volunteers try to keep warm with layers of clothing, it's just too cold.
Winter hours Begin September 8
Starting Tuesday, September 8th the Museum will start it's "Winter Hours" schedule. The Museum will be open on the week-ends Saturday and Sunday from 10 am until 3 pm. The summer hours, 7 days a week will start on June 15, 2015.

IEP provides 2nd J-79-8 Afteburner assembly to be installed on our F-4A Phantom II Assembly. See the full story the latest issue of the Scout.
GENERAL ELECTRIC AVIATION provides J79-8 AFTERBURNER ASSEMBLY
It's with great appreciation that the QAM accepts, on "permanent loan" the J-79-8 Afterburner Assembly that arrived this week. GE has advised us that the A/B Assembly is the "last one" in their inventory.
60 years later, fighter pilot reunites with old warplane under restoration
NORTH KINGSTOWN - It's in much-worn pieces now, scattered about the deck of the Quonset Air Museum and on the apron outside, but the old man who smiled as he relaxed in its dismounted ejection seat Tuesday didn't seem to mind that. His name? It's stenciled on the cockpit of this early jet-era Navy aircraft, shining faintly through layers of paint, recording the remarkable fact that the man in the seat once flew this very aircraft six decades ago.
